NEW WEBCAST OPTION AVAILABLE TO YOUNG PROS FOR CAREER SERIES
Registration is open for IndyHub’s Career Compass for the Creative Class
INDIANAPOLIS – Career Compass for the Creative Class, produced by IndyHub and sponsored by the Indianapolis Private Industry Council (IPIC) and WorkOne, is a series of free events designed by young professionals to help other young professionals advance their careers or find new opportunities. Registration is open at www.indyhub.orgfor the next event on Wednesday, June 9 at the WFYI Community Room in downtown Indianapolis. New for this event, IndyHub is working with IHETS and WFYI to offer a webcast option to make the session accessible to a wider young professional audience across central Indiana.
The June 9 event is titled “Hope is not a strategy, and your resume is not the search.” Facilitated by Kathleen McDonald and Jim McKean of Career Investments, the event will hone in on helping young professionals create a strategic plan to manage their career path. The event time is 7-8:30 a.m. (registration from 7-7:30 a.m.), so as to not interfere with attendees’ work schedules. A link to the webcast will be posted on IndyHub’s website in advance of the event. This will be the third of five events in Part One of the series, focused on career and personal branding. Still to come in Part One is “Creating a network that works for you” on June 30 (also available by webcast), and “Mentor and Mentee: Secrets to finding a great match” on July 7. Details for all of these events are available at www.indyhub.org.
“The Career Compass series provides young professionals with resources to advance their careers,” said Molly Chavers, IndyHub executive director. “Indianapolis needs a strong talent base to encourage local business. This generation of professionals is the life blood of our city’s economic future.”
Career Compass for the Creative Class was launched in August 2009 in response to the nation’s economic downturn. More than 200 Indianapolis young professionals took part last year. The 2010 series has evolved to help young professionals not only navigate a potential job search, but also develop in their current career when funding for professional development may not be available in the workplace. Employers are encouraged to take advantage of these sessions as free professional development for their young professionals.
“Like last year, young professionals can obtain practical guidance and advice to succeed in the workplace,” said Brooke Huntington, president and CEO of IPIC. “The series continues to provide help through the process of finding a job, seeking additional education and training, and teaching young professionals and creative types how to stand out in today’s competitive hiring environment.”
Part Two of the Career Compass series will launch later this summer and feature three events centered on “Been There, Done That” topics including: starting your own business, transferable skills and why failure often leads to success in the future.
Each of the Career Compass for the Creative Class events is free for young professionals to take part in, and individuals may attend one event or the entire series. For more information on the series, the webcast option and to register, young professionals should visit www.indyhub.org or contact Karissa Hulse at karissa@indyhub.org.

Indianapolis based Career Investments LLC launches new product for job seekers
Get-A-Job Plan is an affordable, high-impact, individualized program
(Indianapolis, IN) – Locally based Career Investments LLC is pleased to announce the launch of “Get-A-Job-Plan” – an intensive program designed to prepare job seekers to undertake a new job search.
“In this highly competitive employment environment, we are helping people gain momentum in their job search by giving them practical, tactical expert counsel that, within one week of starting the program, results in a well defined job search and personal marketing plan,” said Kathleen McDonald, President & CEO, Career Investments LLC. “Our work is incredibly meaningful as we are seeing the progress each client is making with “Get-A-Job-Plan” in his or her life professionally and personally.”
“Get-A-Job-Plan” is a high-impact, cost effective, individualized job planning process. During the initial two-hour session with a “Career Management Specialist’, individuals complete a session focused on the critical fundamentals of a successful job search resulting in an updated resume and an actionable job search and personal marketing plan. An additional meeting is set with each individual to monitor initial progress and results.
“We have found this process works for individuals representing various industries and career levels. We are finding success with newly graduating students as well as those who are mid-to-late career as evidenced by our work this week with an education specialist, an engineer, a grant writer, a senior finance executive and a student,” McDonald said.
McDonald also points to the fact that each of its clients is asked upon completion to evaluate the impact of the program’s results. A recent client survey of an individual that was downsized last month revealed, "Career Investments provided a very tailored, individualized approach to my career transition. They got to know me, and my needs, and then made recommendations on good next steps FOR ME. I'm more ready than ever for what's next, in large part thanks to Career Investments and the invaluable input and services they provided. My time with Career Investments was personalized, intuitive, observant, poignant, honest, and helpful. This was no ‘resumes for dummies’ or ‘finding a job 101’- it was a million times better."
The “Get-A-Job-Plan” product has been priced to be effective yet affordable and costs $249.00. Payments may be made via check, credit card or gift certificate.
